All of us at one time were new to the Society. If we were very lucky, the group had an officer in place who would take us under their wing and show us how to play this game we call the SCA. This is the job of the hospitalier. They take the shy, the brazen, the out-and-out mundane among us and turn us into minor nobility. Another term for hospitalier is "magician".
